Nine Inch Nails have released a new record titled “TRON Ares: Divergence”. The album expands the material originally created for the film “TRON: Ares”, whose official soundtrack was released in September 2025. The new release arrived on February 27, 2026 and serves as an extension of the project, featuring additional compositions and remixes prepared by invited artists.
The music is once again composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The duo, who have been shaping the sound of Nine Inch Nails for years, created a body of work that blends the band’s industrial character with the cinematic narrative of science fiction. The album includes both previously unreleased recordings created during the soundtrack sessions and reinterpretations of already known tracks.
Remixes and unreleased recordings
“TRON Ares: Divergence” consists of twenty tracks. Some of them are premiere compositions originating from the film’s recording sessions, while others are remixes prepared by producers and artists associated with the electronic and experimental music scenes. Among the artists who reinterpreted the band’s material are Mark Pritchard, Boys Noize, Lanark Artefax, Chilly Gonzales, Danny L Harle, Jack Dangers, Pixel Grip, Working Men’s Club, The Dare, Schwefelgelb and Arca.
The new album appeared without prior announcement. Information about the release was preceded only by a short visual teaser shared on the band’s social media channels. Such surprise releases are not uncommon in the history of Nine Inch Nails, who have repeatedly experimented with both the form of music distribution and the way they communicate with their audience.
Return to the world of “TRON”
The “TRON: Ares” project marked the first time Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross signed a film score under the name Nine Inch Nails rather than their own names. The 2025 soundtrack became an important element of the film’s promotion and expanded the band’s stylistic spectrum by combining industrial sound with a science fiction electronic aesthetic.
The new release continues this concept. The remixes and alternative versions of the compositions show how film music can function beyond the screen as an autonomous musical experience. As a result, “TRON Ares: Divergence” is not merely an add-on to the soundtrack but a separate chapter in the project developed by Nine Inch Nails.
