Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist of The Cure, has passed away. He was 65.

Perry Bamonte, guitarist and keyboardist of The Cure, has died. The band shared the news in an official statement published on December 26, 2025. He was 65.

In the brief announcement, The Cure said that Bamonte died after a short illness at home “over the holiday period.” They also added a few lines that best capture his place in the band’s history: “Quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative… ‘Teddy’ was a warm hearted and vital part of The Cure story” (The Cure, 2025).

Bamonte’s path to the stage didn’t begin in the studio, but behind the scenes. From 1984 to 1989 he “looked after the band,” and in 1990 he became a full-time member of The Cure. He played guitar, keyboards, and six-string bass.

With Bamonte in the lineup, the band recorded the albums Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits, and The Cure. In the same period, he played more than 400 concerts with the group over 14 years – a number that says more about his role than any description.

The statement also notes that after returning in 2022, Bamonte went on to play another 90 shows, and that chapter was set to conclude with an event summing up the The Show of a Lost World era in London on November 1, 2024.

Major outlets are reporting the musician’s death, and personal tributes are appearing online as well. Lol Tolhurst, former member of The Cure, wrote on social media: “So sad to hear about Perry Bamonte passing… Farewell Teddy”.
