„Memento Mori” in film form: Depeche Mode from Mexico hits Blu-ray, then heads to streaming soon after

For Depeche Mode fans, late 2025 and early 2026 bring a tangible wrap-up of the “Memento Mori” era – not in the form of yet another album reissue, but as a full-fledged film-and-concert package. Since December 5, 2025, the physical release “Depeche Mode: M” has been available on CD/Blu-ray (as well as CD/DVD), and Netflix has announced the “Depeche Mode: M” documentary for streaming – in Poland from January 9, 2026.

What exactly was released on Blu-ray on December 5

One key clarification: the Blu-ray is not the studio album “Memento Mori” itself. It’s the film “Depeche Mode: M” plus the accompanying concert recording “Memento Mori: Mexico City”, released in CD/Blu-ray and CD/DVD sets. The December 5, 2025 release date is confirmed both by Sony Music (Poland) and by music industry outlets.

According to the label’s description, the physical edition is released via Columbia Records and documents three sold-out Depeche Mode shows at Foro Sol stadium in Mexico, part of the 2023 “Memento Mori World Tour”. The first part of the set is “Depeche Mode: M” – a film combining live performances with interpretive segments and archival material, framed through Mexico’s approach to death and impermanence. The second part is “Memento Mori: Mexico City” – a complete concert film.

The concept and direction are credited to Fernando Frías. Announcements have emphasized that this is more than a standard live recording – it’s a filmic story about the relationship between music, audience, and the culture of the place.

Netflix – when, where, and why the dates can be confusing

Netflix lists the title as “Depeche Mode: M”, with a description pointing to themes of music, mortality, and Mexican tradition, anchored by three major Mexico City concerts. At the same time, the title page often notes that availability depends on the country – and that’s the key to understanding why different dates circulate.

In Polish announcements (and reports referencing the band’s communication), January 9, 2026 is given as the date “Depeche Mode: M” enters Netflix in Poland.
At the same time, some English-language outlets reported a Netflix start date of December 9, 2025 for selected markets (including the US and UK, and more broadly parts of Europe). The safest way to read this is as a regional rollout rather than a single global premiere at the same moment everywhere.

Depeche Mode – Ghosts Again (Live in Mexico City)

Why Foro Sol matters, and how it ties into “Memento Mori”

“Depeche Mode: M” grows out of Depeche Mode’s Mexico City concerts, but aims to go beyond the setlist. In the theatrical-release announcement, it was emphasized that the film uses performance footage linked to the 2023 album “Memento Mori” to explore local culture and its relationship with death – a theme positioned as the project’s central axis in promotional framing.

In that same communication, Dave Gahan summed up the creators’ intent plainly:

“At its core, our new film, M, is about the deep connection between music, culture, and people.”
